Indian law adds its own calendar, from CEA 2023 electrical inspection to crane, pressure vessel, boiler and fire extinguisher examinations. Since the 2023 edition, NFPA 70B uses mandatory "shall" language: a written Electrical Maintenance Program, an EMP coordinator, documented procedures, a records policy, and a programme audit at least every 5 years. The 2026 edition is current.
Every asset is rated Condition 1, 2 or 3 on physical condition, criticality and operating environment. The worst of the three decides the interval: a breaker goes from 60 months at Condition 1 to 12 months at Condition 3.
CEA Safety Regulations 2023 set the statutory electrical floor. The OSH Code 2020, SMPV(U) Rules, Boilers Act 2025 and IS 2190:2024 add cranes, vessels, boilers and extinguishers. A plant that runs NFPA 70B on a separate sheet runs two registers that drift apart.
A thermography report in one folder, breaker test sheets in another, the CEA self-certification with the electrical contractor, crane certificates in the EHS cabinet. When a corporate EHS auditor, an insurer's surveyor or the Electrical Inspector asks for the maintenance history of one panel, it takes a day to assemble.
